The Premise of TVD
The show, The Vampire Diaries, focuses on the supernatural town, Mystic Falls. It follows Elena Gilbert, who falls for the brooding vampire, Stefan Salvatore. A complex and tragic love triangle forms between Elena and the two Salvatore brothers, Stefan Salvatore and Damon Salvatore.
Ian's Role as Damon Salvatore
Ian's character, Damon Salvatore, is portrayed as a villainous vampire in the beginning seasons. As his character progresses, he becomes more complex as he expresses heartbreak, childhood abuse, and betrayal. Damon evolves from the villainous brother to the anti-hero vampire we all know and love.
Fan Community
Although the show, The Vampire Diaries, first aired in September of 2009, the fanbase is still going strong. The actors within the show, including Ian Somerhalder, still attend conventions to meet their fans and talk about the show with them. Fans continue to create edits and merch of the characters on social media. The town in Georgia where the show was actually filmed continues to host tours of the filming locations as well. The Vampire Diaries can be streamed on HBO Max or Peacock.
